Rio Grande Zoo's Tasmanian Devils

On a nice day this week we trekked to the zoo.

There was a lot of traffic along the way, which might lead one to wonder, "What's the big deal?"

This is a big deal.  Our zoo, after years of negotiations, planning, and wishin' and hopein' had acquired four creatures from down under.  We are apparently one of 2 zoos in the USA and one of a handful of zoos in the world to have the furry little creatures roaming around.

They're a bit bigger than a skunk. They were as curious about us, as we were about them.

Some UNM Lobos showed up to look.  Cameron Bairstow in the forefront is from the devil's homeland in Australia, so he's been closer to the devils than Alex Kirk, the big guy in the back who's from Los Alamos.

Nearby occupants could have cared less.

And the kids enjoyed sitting on the throne.

Across the way, on this cool day, Mr. Polar Bear was watching, and prowling.

What a place.
