The Lone Ranger Rides Again

There they are, the new Lone Ranger and Tonto in a publicity shot provided by the company that's shooting the movie in New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah.

The Lone Ranger (John Reid)is portrayed by Armie Hammer and Tonto (Native American spirit warrior) is played by Johnny Depp.

According to publicity on the movie, The Lone Ranger and Tonto are opposites brought together by fate and must join forces to battle greed and corruption.

Jerry Bruckheimer and Disney are making the film. JB is on hand at the film shooting on a set west of Rio Rancho and has also been spotted around town. He posts some items on Twitter.

Tonto is supposedly staying in a big fancy house in the east mountains.

Hometown hits the big time.

The writer is call it a "wealthy enclave"...I'm not sure that's what Taos is if he's talking about money. If he's talking about scenic beauty, he's right on.

Anyway, Forbes has published a list of "prettiest towns" and my hometown is included.

Arnie's Army

There’s just something about certain places.

I suppose I was part of Arnie's Army way back when. Even though I've never seen him in person, or seen him play golf in person. I have been lucky enough to play on his golf course and stay in that Inn. It seemed like I’d been there a lifetime. The attitude was so gracious… and so relaxed.

The golf course then was in phenomenal shape…I can only imagine what it’s like for the good guys.


There were certain thinks about the visit that I’ll always remember…including

Dress Code Guidelines

Thank you for adhering to these guidelines throughout your stay.

Clubhouse Attire: Gentlemen must remove their hats while in the Clubhouse. Proper golf or casual business attire is required. Men’s shirts must have collars and must be tucked in unless the shirt was specifically designed otherwise. Jean shorts, T-shirts, swimwear, tank tops, midriff-bearing attire and gym clothes are not permitted.

Bay Window/Grill Room Attire: Proper golf or casual attire is required. Jeans and jean-style pants in good condition are permitted. Men’s shirts must have collars and must be tucked in unless the shirt was specifically designed otherwise. Jean shorts, T-shirts, swimwear, tank tops, midriff-bearing attire or gym clothes are not permitted.

Classic Room Attire (Dinner): Casual business attire is appropriate. Men’s shirts must have collars and must be tucked in unless the shirt was specifically designed otherwise. Jeans, shorts, T-shirts, flip flops, swimwear, tank tops, midriff-bearing attire or gym clothes are not permitted.

Golf Course Attire: Those who desire to wear shorts may have a hem length of no more than 4 inches above the knee. Only Bermuda or walking shorts are permitted. No tennis or coaching apparel, jeans or jeans-style pants, cut-offs or tank tops are permitted. Men’s shirts are required to be of the type designed specifically for golf (with collars and sleeves) and must be worn tucked in at all times. Ladies’ sleeveless shirts must have collars. Ladies’ shirts without collars must have sleeves. Ladies are permitted to wear slacks, skirts or proper length shorts. Children 18 and under may wear shorts less than the Bermuda length, but must be of a length acceptable by approved national or state golf associations.

We need more of that.

The only thing missing during my visit was the opportunity to meet Arnold Palmer. He didn’t show up at the bar that night, as expected by some of his ol’ pals.

Sunland Park Dum-Dee-Dum-Dum

"It's a big mess. I'm not going to mince my words," Governor Susana Martinez said today in speaking about the situation in Sunland Park – a community of several thousand that are practically surrounded by the west Texas town of El Paso.

Sunland Park’s government is at a stand still – corruption everywhere.

It's reported that Mayor-elect Daniel Salinas and City Manager Jaime Aguilera are not talking to investigators. Both have been charged with suspicion of extortion and the courts have told them not to be on city property or to talk to municipal employees.

How do they do their job, or who does their job?

The State Auditor says the investigation includes these charges: purchases by the city of goods and services; payments to “questionable vendors;” incorrect payments to city councilors; incorrect water billings; use of money for travel; and daily expense allowances for those on city business.

The State Auditor needs Jack Webb to get just the facts.

Oh, wasn't Governor Martinez once the District Attorney in that part of the state?

There's Always Next Year

The Lobo's basketball trip to the Final Four ended Saturday night in Portland. It would have probably ended on Thursday in Phoenix, anyway.

It was a terrific season and just the continuation of what is becoming a great basketball program.

But, we've got to put the pedal to the metal and keep going, not turn back, not listen to the "we're poor ol' New Mexico".

We gotta move forward, folks.
