Chickens, Turkeys, Mac & Cheese, Ice Cream

5,300,000 chickens are going to be killed, just in Iowa, to try and prevent the spread of the H5N2 virus (bird flu).  Those in the industry say it shouldn’t have very much of an impact on consumers. The industry says there are about 50,000,000 hens laying eggs in Iowa.

And, gobble gobble…2,400,000 turkeys have already been destroyed.  There again, the industry says it should not have very much of an impact, the National Turkey Federation notes that 240,000,000 turkeys are produced annually in the good ol’ US of A.

Wisconsin’s Governor, Scott Walker, who wants to be POTUS, has declared a state of emergency and called out the National Guard to help contain the disease.

Mac and Cheese is going to change colors, but not taste, says Kraft.   That steaming plate of orange goo – which I love – is about to change a little because of pressure from “healthier” competitors.  Kraft says it’s stripping all artificial preservatives and synthetic colors from Kraft Mac & Cheese.

What else?

My favorite ice cream, Blue Bell, has taken all of its products off the shelves because eight people have been affected by a Listeria monocytogenes.
